For the Love of Music: 10 March 2021

This song brings back so many memories. I had a friend in school he loved Art and Simon Garfunkel. One evening around the campfire he played this on his guitar and sang along. I don’t think we were aware what the song was about. Only a few years later when I sat down and listened to it I realized that this song was about losing someone…

Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel

Is it a kind of dream
Floating out on the tide
Following the river of death downstream?
Oh, is it a dream?

There’s a fog along the horizon
A strange glow in the sky
And nobody seems to know where you go
And what does it mean?
Oh, is it a dream?

Bright eyes
Burning like fire
Bright eyes
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes

Is it a kind of shadow
Reaching into the night
Wandering over the hills unseen
Or is it a dream?

There’s a high wind in the trees
A cold sound in the air
And nobody ever knows when you go
And where do you start
Oh, into the dark

Bright eyes
Burning like fire
Bright eyes
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes

Bright eyes
Burning like fire
Bright eyes
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes

With all my heart, Thank You for your ongoing support and for taking the time to have a look at my post.

  1. Always like a bit of Art Garfunkel. ‘Bright Eyes’ invariably makes me think of the animated movie ‘Watership Down’, which was a TV staple for me as a kid. The song was written specifically for the movie, which is an equally sad and uplifting affair from start to finish. Thanks for sharing.
