Save the Tie, Save a Child Fashion Show: Hein Smit

Hein Smit, one of our talented designers, was part of the Save the Tie, Save a Child Fashion Show. His dresses made heads turn, and one was sold after the second show… Months of work went into the design and making of these dresses. Many late nights and hundreds of ties went into these masterpieces.

Hein also designed the dress for our Hostess, Mrs. Cape Town 2013, Chantal Witthuhn.STT_4831

Hein and I started talking via Facebook after I took photo’s of Mrs Cape Town 2013 in one of the dresses he designed for her out of old and unused ties. I personally met him for the first time at one of the  Save the Tie, Save a Child meetings. Hein is a very talented and passionate designer and I love his work.  CW_364510441271_709329359113756_2403644597468235616_n

Save the Tie, Save a Child Fashion Show: Junior Models

Mrs Cape Town 2013 Chantal Witthuhn hosted the  Save the Tie, Save a Child Fashion show on 27/28 June 2014.  She had the idea of making outfits out of old and unused ties. When she asked me if I would be part of the team I just could not say no. What an experience it was and I have grown allot in the process. I helped collect ties, took photo’s at the meetings and had the honor to meet so many new people. The best of all was to see old ties transformed into gorgeous outfits and evening gowns….

The Junior Models and their Mothers  had approximately one week to design a dress out of the old and unused ties collected.  They did not disappoint at all and I must say I was super impressed once again.

Over the next few posts I will share some of the photo’s of the three designers who were also part of the project.

Some History on the Augrabies Falls National Park. I got this from the parks website.

The name Augrabies was given to the Water Fale by a Swede, Hendrik Jakob Wikar, when he passed there in 1799.

The name is derived from the Nama word as the Khoi people would refer to “Aukoerebis” meaning the “Place of Great Noise.” This refers to the Orange River water thundering it’s way down the 56m spectacular main Water Fall.

Unfortunately the fall was not that spectacular when we went to visit. I must say I was very disappointed and as we drove in the park visiting the different view points I was hoping that the big one is still to come….  Project 365 149d

The view from one of the view points. The river were not rushing as I thought it would be. My first thought was okay we a still far from the falls… I loved the colors and patterns of  the rocks along the 18 kilometer gorge. It just shows one how powerful water can be.

Something about Hyraxes….. Thank you Wikipedia…

Hyraxes are small, thickset, herbivorous mammals in the order Hyracoidea. Hyraxes are well-furred, rotund animals with short tails. Typically, they measure between 30 and 70 cm long and weigh between 2 and 5 kg. They are often mistaken for rodents, but are more closely related to elephants. Four species are recognised; the rock hyrax (Procavia capensis), the yellow-spotted rock hyrax (Heterohyrax brucei), the western tree hyrax (Dendrohyrax dorsalis) and the southern tree hyrax (Dendrohyrax arboreus). Their distribution is limited to Africa and the Middle East.
