If you are to faraway from the beach and need to relax go to your nearest pond or lake. Water has a calming effect on most of us…
It does not matter how big or small the pond is, it seems to hypnotize you into a calm state of mind just sitting and watching at the water and the reflections in it.

This morning I am on a emotional roller-coaster. I have mixed feelings about everything and that is just confusing. Let me explain…
I feel depressed because….
For those who follow me will know that I was not that active on WordPress for nearly 4 years maybe more and only started posting again on a regular basis about a month ago… Alot happened in my life and somehow I lost my spark got it back and lost it again… Trying to keep everyone happy and in the process neglected myself and my photography business… Now I am trying to get back into things but I took myself out of the game….
I am looking for work as a photographer, freelance or permanent but my 10 years of experience in photography does not count without the proper papers to back me up. I am a self taught photographer and spend many hours on the internet working through different photography sites and tutorials trying to better myself. I invested in online workshops that I go through on regular basis to refresh my memory. Still not good enough. At age 45 I must go and study so that I can provide a piece of paper to say that I can take photo’s….
So in January 2020 I will enroll for a photography course and this is made possible by my father who will be sponsoring me.
On the other hand I feel Happy and Blessed.
I feel happy that I can share my work with you and that when the boys were growing up I could spend time with them because I worked from home.
I am blessed with a talent and it would not be right if I keep my work to myself… I have thousands of photos on my computer and external hard drives that must still be edited and shared with the world.
I feel stressed because I need to get a income. I am busy working through my nature photo’s. I would like to sell them and earn some money with them. Then the critic in me comes out and I don’t think my work is good enough to sell… Like I said I am on a rollercoaster ride this morning….
When I went through my photos this morning to see what I wanted to post I saw these ones of some Pekin Ducks. It looks like they are smiling all the time. Happy and content with their lives.
Funny enough it made me feel better. That is why I decided to share them with you today. They lifted my spirit a bit….
Even though I am on this rollercoaster I know it will come to an end and I will look back on this morning and smile and be happy and content just like a Pekin Duck.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my work.

There are just something about a tree dead or alive in the middle of a river or pond.
It looks beautiful even if dead and it serves a purpose too. For some it’s a resting place and for others it is a good place to dry off after nice bath….
Personally I love trees in water. The reflections they make is awesome and I love capturing it. Walking around the pond one can capture it from different angles and it never looks the same….

Just a few photos taken of the Egyptian Geese at Sonstraaldam.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my work.
If you can dream it you can do it.
In March I took my boyfriends daughters to one of our local picnic spots for the morning.
Sonstraal dam is one of our favorite places to go and it is free. You can walk around the pond and get in some exercise too. During the week it is not that busy. Mostly moms with young children and strolers walking around the pond and feeding the ducks.
In the past there was a wide range of ducks and geese to be found. I have noticed that the number of Egyptian Geese have increased over the past 2 years and some of the others has either moved away due to the drought we had or have died.
I will be going back there again in the next 2 months. I just hope I see more of the other duck species again.
Here is a few of my photos of the Egyptian Geese. Will post more in my next post.

While driving through Potsberg dad and I spotted a Cattle Egret looking for food. Not long afterwards it was successful and caught a scorpion.
We sat by the side of the road for quite a while watching it fight with the scorpion. This was a first for me. Even dad said he never saw one eat a scorpion before.
This is the reason why I love photography and spending time in nature. One always see something new and if you have your camera with you one can document what you saw…

Ostriches are very big birds that can’t fly…. But oh my word they can run very fast and they lay very big eggs….
I used to love to listen to the stories my mother told me about her childhood vacations on the Ostrich farm were her grandparents stayed. She told me how she and her nephew use to go play in the Ostrich penns. They were not aware that it was breeding season and got to close to the eggs. Mom told us that she never knew she can run that fast or jump over the fence….
When I was about 10 years old my parents took us to Oudtshoorn known for all it’s Ostrich farms. My mom also showed us were she spent her school holidays. I remembered that holiday as if it was yesterday. Sitting on the back of that big bird and feeding it. I found it very interesting that Ostriches eats stones well everything they can swallow to be honest. They really like shiny things too.
Ostrich eggs are very big and srong. One can stand on it and it won’t break. I would never believed it but I saw it with my own two eyes. One Ostrich egg equals 24 eggs and it is a taste to get use to. I personally love it especially when you make omelettes of it.
While visiting the Westcoast National Park last year for the first time I had the opportunity to take some awesome photo’s of the Ostriches in a field of yellow flowers.

“Take vacations, go as many places as you can, you can always make money, you can’t always make memories.”
There is only one problem with this quote… To go to places one needs money and if you live in South Africa you need lots of it.
Nowadays there is not many places that you can go to for free. Even if there are no entry fees you still need fuel in your car and that costs more than a loaf of bread these days…
I use to love to travel and take the boys out on day trips during school holidays. Now they are big and do their own thing….
Just this morning I told my dad that I would love to visit Cape Point again. Haven’t been there in years…. When we were children we used to go there when we had visitors from other provinces….
Thank you for taking the time to look at my work.

Tortoises are more visible these days in The Westcoast National Park. Maybe it is just because they have grown and are bigger so one sees them better….
I was very lucky this time around they did not all head for the bushes when I got out to take some photo’s of the.
Thank you for stopping by. Have a Blessed day.

Sometimes I wonder about this one. In some cases like for instance in my work I like to share my knowledge with others. I like to share what I know and taught myself over te past decade.
Then you get those circumstances where you know something about someone and you are waiting for them to come clean and be honest with you… You don’t let them know that you know what is going on…
A few years back I took my first photo of this tree on a hill on a day I that turned my whole world upside down and inside out. This tree is a constant reminder of that perticular day and that I knew something and was waiting for it to be confirmed….
What is your interpretation of this qoute?

I read on Instagram that in 1930 there were only 30 Bontebok left in the world….
According to Wikipedia they were killed as pests and at one stage only 17 existed.
Today Bontebok are only found in South Africa in protective areas like our Sanparks.
I was lucky and got a awesome photo opportunity when I visited The West Coast National Park and Potsberg in September last year. The Bontebok walked straight to my car like a model and looked straight into the lens….
At another spot I captured a few in a field. When I edited the photos I spotted a calf and his mom….

While driving in Postberg you spot a lot of beautiful flowers but one can’t really take nice photo’s from your car. One have to get out and get in close. Only then do you find hidden gems.
I tried to identify the flowers by going through my books. I use Wild Flowers of South Africa by Braam van Wyk, Field Guide to Wild Flowers of South Africa and also Field Guide to Fynbos by John Manning. My only problem is some of the photo’s are so small and some only taken from different angles than mine that I struggled to identify them 100%..
I can only blame myself too. At one stage I was quite clued up on my flower. But if you don’t refresh your mind every now and then one seems to forget… So I have just decided to work on this again. I have so many files with photo’s of flowers, plants and trees. Maybe I must start identifying them and get a expert who will be willing to help me. What do you think?
Thank you for taking the time to look at my work. Please feel free to comment on my work. I believe that one can only learn from others and your mistakes.
In 95 days and 11 Hours dad and I will be on our way to Scotland. We are nearly all set only our visas that need to be done next week. Then the long wait will be upon us.
This will be my first time going abroad and I am super excited to scratch two things of my bucket list this year. Fly international and take a tour through Scotland.
I am 45 years old and have drawn up a bucket list of countries, towns and places I would like to visit… This will keep me very busy for quite a few years to come. Some people will look at me funny when they see it.
On my list there are alot of places here in South Africa. I used to travel alot in the past, but in life situations change and one has to make decisions on what is more important.
When dad got diagnosed with Maestina Gravis last year I had an eye opener and started working on my bucketlist. I told myself that I want to tick 3 of items every year…. My third item on my list will be to visit one of our local attractions.
Potsberg has some of the most beautiful landscapes. I just love capturing them. During flowerseason it just take it to the next level…
In the past there were more colors visible but due to the drought we had the yellow flowers took over and only here and there you stil had patches of purple, pink and white flowers. Don’t get me wrong it is still awesome and I got some beautiful photos with Bontebok and Ostrich. These I will share at a later stage….
Due to the fact that my trigger finger worked overtime I need to split our Potsberg visit in 3 posts….
Thank you for stopping by my blog. Hope you enjoyed your visit. Please let me know what you think of my work. Have a Blessed week.

Your worth consists in what you are and not in what you have… Thomas Edison
A few years back a colleague told me that I am worth much more and that I must start believing in myself and my abilities as a photographer.
For me this is very difficult. I am my own worst critic and sometimes I feel like my photo’s are not good enough it can still improve.
Even after 10 years in the industry I am still learning new skills. Trying to better myself for my client’s and potential clients…
I do have a goal and that is to sell my nature photos online…. But the big question is what do I think I am worth?

Yellow reminds me of the sun my favorite fruit bananas and also lemons…
On the spectrum of visible light yellow lies between orange and green.
Yellow is also associated with different feelings in different countries and cultures.
Yellow is the color people most often associate with amusement, gentleness, humor, wisdom, happiness, glory, wisdom, and spontaneity. Yellow can also be associated with negative feelings like envy, jealousy, cowardice and sickness.
In photography you get to work closely with this color when editing and fine tuning you photos.
