I am very sorry that I did not post for a while. But with mom being out of commission and with a whole garden to keep me busy, I did not have any time for hijacking mom’s computer.
Oooh, I must tell you I am an aunt now, Lian my human brother adopted a puppy two weeks ago. Her name is Oprah and she is a very busy little pup.
Oprah steals my food and toys. So, I am forced to hide my favorite toys from her by digging holes in the garden. Mom gets so mad she says I am ruining her garden….
Mom and Lian, says I must help them potty train Oprah. I must take her outside when I go outside. But Oprah is very naughty, as soon as she sets foot in the house, she makes a puddle or a stinkbom….
I must say life is very busy these days. All Oprah wants to do is play, eat and sleep. I hide on mom’s bed to get away from her. I used to go lie on the couch, but Oprah got a way up and now I have no peace and quiet on the couch.
I get very jealous when Oprah sits on mom’s lap. But I am a clever girl, I devise a plan so that Oprah gets down from mom’s lap then I climb on and give mom lots of kisses. Mom keeps telling me I am her girl and she loves me to the moon and back.
Mom said if I am good, we can go for walks again in the Spring. Then her leg will be healed… Till then I will have to play with Oprah, and go on the occasional drive with mom.
I do love Oprah and I try to protect her. Mom says I am a good girl and I would have made a good mommy.
I am very sorry that I have not been posting or sharing anything with you over the past week.
But this morning is the first time I am trying to stay off the pain medicine since the 21st of March 2022…
Lian, Zany and I took Willow to the beach that morning. Willow has been in a very protective mood the weeks before. She only allows certain people near me. And even comes between Mornè and I when comes to visit.
Anyway, she was okay while we played in the water and nobody was near us. After walking about 3 km we turned around and head back to the car. About 1.5km back in she looked back and before I know it she started charging these two Cocker Spaniels.
In the process she spinned me around, I lost my balance, heard a snap snap sound hit the ground and she dragged me for about 2 meters could be more, before Lian could catch her.
I held on to that leash for dear life. I knew if I let go she would be gone. Only when Lian said he hed her did I let go. Lying in the sand in so much pain I wanted to pass out. I put on my brave face and tried to get up. But I could not. I knew this feeling all to well a repeat of 1990 and 1997 again. Torn ligaments I told myself. Take as much weight off the leg I reminded myself.
Well we still had 1.5km to walk to get to the car….
Lian took Willow, and Zany and I followed at a snails pase. We made it to the car. I felt like passing out but I didn’t. I got into the back and tried to get as comfortable as possible. But I could not sit…. I had to sit like the children today on their backs….
When we got home I took a hot bath with some muscle relaxer to try and ease the pain. But that did not really work.
I went to the doctor the next day and he confirmed that I tore ligaments and my hamstring. He gave me some heavy pain medicine and told me to try and stay off the leg….
I know the drill, been through it twice before. Both times it was my right leg this time left leg… Now I am catching up on my movies on my hard drive.
I am posting from my phone so please excuse my grammar and spelling mistakes. I do want to try to sit in a chair today if it is only for 15 minutes.
For those of you who visited my blog over the last week Thank you very much. My stats for my page has gone from great to well not that great. But as soon as I am able to sit and edit, I can start bombarding you with my work again….
They say things happens in three’s but people I am at five….
I am very sorry that I did not post for a while. But Mom was so busy at her computer that I did not have a chance to hijack it.
A lot has happened since I last talked to you. Grandad went away to a place they call a hospital and Mom was sick in bed here at home. I took care of Mom and made sure she was not cold. I also helped her to finish her food. After Mom got better, Granddad came home, but he could not walk. Mom spend all her time looking after Granddad and when she went out to fetch food I looked after him to make sure he was okay.
Well, I am here now. I took Mom for a walk this morning. It looked like her eyes were going to leak again. Since Dad and Granddad left Mom’s, eyes keep leaking. I try to lick away the water. Sometimes Mom starts laughing and we go outside and play. Sometimes I climb on Mom’s lap and I give her lots of cuddles. I don’t like it when mom’s eyes leak like that….
Mom said that I must get back to training, she told one of the people on that thing she takes the photos with when we are walking, that I had a very long school holiday (whatever that means). Mom also told me that if I behave, we can go on more walks this week. I like spending time with Mom, and I protect her from all other humans I don’t know.
Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed our outing this morning.
Do I have some news for you. Mom told me that I must tell you all about my visit to the beach yesterday. So here goes….
Yesterday morning Mom woke me up very early. It was still dark outside and that big light in the sky was still switched off. Mom then put her face covering around her neck, and then she went into her office and got her camera bag. I call it I will be back soon bag. When she takes that bag I stay at home and Mom goes out by herself. She do give me treats though.
Mom and Dad called me and told me we are going to the beach. Beach????? I did not know what that is. Now I understand why Mom was putting stuff in the car and an blanket on the backseat the previous evening. I wondered why she put my bath towels, a water bowl and a bottle of water in the back of the car.
We drove for a very long time. When Mom stopped she went to the back of the car and took out her camera and Dad took me out of the car. Mom was walking one way and Dad took me in the opposite direction. I did not like that at all. I wanted to go to Mom. She climbed on to big stones and Dad told me that I am going to hurt myself if I go after Mom. I called her but she only came back a little while later. I was so worried I could not see her she just disappeared behind the big stones.
After a while we saw Mom again and she was taking photos of the water and all those big stones dad calls rocks. She showed Dad the back of her camera and said that she is finish and we can go. We got back in the car and I did not understand is this the beach? I did not understand what all the fuss was about. I did not even went for a proper walk.
Mom drove for a short while and then we got out again. Then I saw it…..
WOOOOFFSEEE what a big pool, everywhere you look is just water that come and greet you and run away again. I wonder why the water is afraid of me. There was also lots and lots of sand. Dad said I can dig as many holes as I want to here.
Dad took the movie of Mom and me playing in the water.
Mom said as soon as I listen to her when she calls me back and stop pulling and running off she will take my leash off and I can go play in the sand and water. But for now Mom says it is safer for me to be on the leash.
I gave Mom some proper exercise we ran in the water and when Mom and I turned to run back to Dad the water grabbed Moms foot and she fell down in the water, I pulled as hard as I could to save her from the water…. Mom got up and laughed she thought it was so funny. She told Dad that one moment there was sand the next moment nothing, just water.
Mom, Dad and I walked along the beach and then the sand started hurting us, Mom said it is broken shells and it can cut my paws and their feet. We turned around and went back to the car. Mom gave me some water in my bowl but I was not that thirsty but Mom insisted that I drink some and gave me some water in her hands. Then she took out my bath towels and dried me.
We got back in the car and we drove home. I was very tired and slept nearly all the way home.
Yesterday afternoon Mom and Dad watched movies and I caught up on some lost sleep. Who would have thought that an early morning run and walk along the beach can make one so very tired.
Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed our outing to the beach.
What a morning. I was standing guard while Mom is giving Granddad his morning food. That’s when I saw something flying into the driveway. I told the thing to go away but it just moved closer to the gate.
After Mom finished in Granddad’s flat she came out and asked me what’s wrong. I then showed her the flying creature in the driveway.
What did Mom do? The most irresponsible thing you can think of!!! She opened the gate and invited the flying creature into our backyard. She clearly did not understand that it could be aliens trying to hurt us all.
I told it to leave us alone, and go away. Mom thought it was very funny and laughed the whole time. Even Snuffels smelled the flying creature’s butt and just walked away.
I could not understand how they can be so calm about something that moves around without legs and it can fly too. What kind of creature is this??????? And then it had the audacity to drink my water without asking!
Mom told me it is alright that it will not harm us. She invited it inside and now it is hiding under Moms bed.
Willow loves playing outside and with winter nearly finished I am looking forward to playing with her in the garden or what is left of it anyway. Willow has been digging all over the. The lawn has a lot of sandpits now. I try to take her for walks whenever we have a nice day.
Willow love her stuffed animals. Well they were stuffed at the time the photos was taken. I had to take out the stuffing so that she don’t eat it. I don’t want her to get sick.
She really likes her unstuffed giraffe. When she gets excited she will go look for it and start throwing it in the air. She also use it as payment for treats…. When I am busy working and she want treats she will throw the giraffe on my lap or put it on my desk and then she will look in the direction of the treats.
When you go outside in the morning and found that a mini hurricane with the name of Willow hit your garden the previous evening…
Even if you take her for walks, play with her and give her tons of affection and treats she still has to be naughty. I did found that the days we went out for walks that evening she goes into destructive mode.
Mom took me to Sonstraaldam again this morning. I had such a lovely walk.
In the beginning I did not want to listen to mom. There was so many new smells I just had to chase and smell them all. But I soon realized that if I do not stop pulling mom is going to take me to the car and then we are going home. She told me so.
We had such a great time walking today. George the Cocker Spaniel and his sister was also there. They had another furry dog with them who kept barking at me in her high pitch voice. It was so annoying I could not hear a word George said. I do hope we see George and his mom again sometime.
On our second round around the dam mom stopped a lot to take photos so that I can show you how beautiful it is. I had such a good time that when we had to come home I did not want to get in the car. Mom said if I don’t get in she is not bringing me to the dam anymore. So I got in, I will miss all the Ducks, Geese, Guineafowl and the friends I meet along the walk.
I am going to miss our walks next week when mom and Granddad goes away to take photos and look at the flowers.
Mommy uploaded some of the photos she took with her cellphone. I was a good girl when mom took her photos I sat patiently and wait for her to finish. One of these days mommy can bring her big camera and take even more beautiful photos.
That’s it for now friends. Mommy wants to edit some photos. I am so tired of all the exercise I am going to take a nap.
We have not taken that many photos the past month. It was raining a lot and we did not play outside that much. I hope to take much more photos with my camera of Willow when the days get warmer and we spend some more time outdoors. At the moment most of the photos of Willow is taken with my cellphone.
At the moment I try to take Willow out on drives and we go to Sonstraaldam and walk around the dam a few times.
She loves to go for drives, I cannot open the car door when she is around she gets in and it is a struggle to get her out.
Willow have been a very good girl this week. I think she realizes that we do have our play times and the rest of the time she is sleeping either on the bed or next to the bed on a blanket.
The Braai Room is off limits to her on days it is raining a lot. She puts her front paws and face into the buckets and then she blows bubbles. When she comes inside everything is wet… I must replace the roof of the Braai Room but I must first save up enough money to buy all the materials needed to do it.
Willow is a bit frustrated today. It has been 4 days since she can roam free. Due to the rain, I had to keep her indoors and only take her outside supervised. She loves water, which makes it hard to keep the house clean and dry.
Willow loves to take mud baths. When she gets a gap, she will go and play in the mud. It is a very messy affair. I see that it will only be cloudy today Willow and I can go play outside later.
Willow has also found the toilet brush, and she carries it around everywhere. I have to lock the bathroom now. She also found out if you pull on the toilet paper roll it the paper comes with you… I forgot to take a photo of it friends, so sorry.
Poor Willow is very confused today. She is being kept on the other side of the house. She can go to Granddad, but mom is in her office working, and there are unknown men in our home. They are installing the fiber today.
Willows training is going great. She has mastered paw giving and now she wants to do it all the time.
She loves pasta, rice, eggs, apple, banana and orange. I have to put the fruit up high so that she can’t get to it, because she help herself to apples.
I started training her to get into the car and then we go for drives. When I have to go drop off something at a client or pick up something I take her with. As soon as the weather is better I will go on longer drives and walks. She gets super excited when I have her leash in my hands.
On the Shadow and Willow front. Shadow has started moving around in the house. But as soon as he hears Willow he gets up high.
It’s been a month since I adopted Willow. She has settled in nicely and brings us so much joy. She is 9 months now.
This week she started giving her paw when you ask for it. One down many to go. She sit and give paw on orders. We are still working on the fetch. Now I want to start on training her to lie down on demand.
I have found that Willow do have a will of her own. When she feels like playing fetch she will bring the ball to me or throw the ball at my feet. We play ball in the passage outside.
She loves running around in the garden and entertaining herself with her toys.
She loves playing outside and if you give her a new toy she takes it outside.
This week she was very naughty but like children they test the boundaries. She knows exactly when she did something wrong. She hates being ignored, but in some cases I can’t ignore it when she is naughty for her own safety.
I am busy training her to give paw. Today was the first time that she did give her paw when I asked for it. I tried a few minutes later again and she just look at me….
I took her to the Vet last Friday and she got a clean bill of health and also her last injections. The Vet told me to keep Willow at home for 14 days before we go out again. I am not sure why, but I am rather safe than sorry.
Willow loves attention and she will make sure you give her plenty. In the evenings she will squeeze between Morné and me.
She loves to lick…. Poor Ogies end up wet more than once a day…. Ogies and Willow gets along so great. She will call Willow and then when Willow gets near she will moan and I will tell Willow to leave Ogies alone. The other day I was standing in my office doorway and I saw something very interesting. Willow was lying under the couch and Ogies was sitting on the chair in the sun. She started moaning looking straight at me. Poor Willow wasn’t even near her. When I did not respond, she moaned even louder. I started wondering how many times Willow was innocent….
On the Willow and Shadow front;
They are still not getting along. When Shadow sees Willow he disappears. My heart is braking and I miss my cuddles with my boy. I wish that Shadow will realize that Willow just wants to play. But taken Shadows past I can understand that he is afraid.
Willow has been with us for 3 Weeks. Three very busy weeks. She is like a toddler, when you don’t hear her or see her then you must know she is busy with mischief.
Willow has a fattish with plastic bowls, dishcloths, and towels. I have no idea how I will get her to stop.
I can’t go to the bathroom without her. She will open the door if I close it and then she will come and lie by my feet. If she can’t open the door she will sit and cry until I come out.
Her concentration span is very short and she gets distracted very easily. Training takes a bit longer than I am used to but, just like children, pups have their own pace at developing.
Yesterday while I was busy doing the dishes she threw her ball at my feet. We moved the ball playing to the passage next to the house, it’s under a roof and much dryer than outside especially when it is raining. Also no distractions and it stretches the full length of the house. She gets enough exercise while playing here.
Going for walks is also easier. I found a route with minimum dogs and I also started jogging short distances with her. The short distances is more for me though, I am the one who gets tired of jogging….
My biggest problem with Willow is that I don’t have much information about her past. I am trying to find out a bit more about her first 8 months.
Willow is adapting very good. She is testing the boundaries on a daily basis.
Every morning she climbs on the bed with me and we cuddle for a while. Sometimes we fall asleep other times she sits and barks at her reflection in the sliding door.
Every morning while waiting for the kettle to boil, Willow and I go outside to feed the birds and clean up the yard and play.
She loves playing ball and with sticks. About 4 days ago she started bringing the ball to me.
At 8:30am we go to my fathers flat to make him breakfast and test his blood sugar. If I am just a few minutes late Willow starts moaning at the sliding door.
I try to take her for walks every day. Even if it is just a short one. I bought her a new training leash and it works like a dream. When we go for walks it start out a bit bumpy but after a few minutes she gets used to it.
In the evenings she lies on the couch with us. When we go to bed she gets up on the bed and as soon as we switch off the light she returns to the couch.
Here are some of the photos taken the day Willow arrived.
With all my heart, thank you for your ongoing support and taking the time to read my post. I am truly grateful for every view, like, follow, and comment I receive.
