Willow Shenanigans: 17 June 2021

Good day friends,

It’s been a month since I adopted Willow. She has settled in nicely and brings us so much joy. She is 9 months now.

This week she started giving her paw when you ask for it. One down many to go. She sit and give paw on orders. We are still working on the fetch. Now I want to start on training her to lie down on demand.

I have found that Willow do have a will of her own. When she feels like playing fetch she will bring the ball to me or throw the ball at my feet. We play ball in the passage outside.

She loves running around in the garden and entertaining herself with her toys.

Willow Shenanigans: 10 June 2021

Willow is with us for 4 weeks already.

She loves playing outside and if you give her a new toy she takes it outside.

This week she was very naughty but like children they test the boundaries. She knows exactly when she did something wrong. She hates being ignored, but in some cases I can’t ignore it when she is naughty for her own safety.

I am busy training her to give paw. Today was the first time that she did give her paw when I asked for it. I tried a few minutes later again and she just look at me….

I took her to the Vet last Friday and she got a clean bill of health and also her last injections. The Vet told me to keep Willow at home for 14 days before we go out again. I am not sure why, but I am rather safe than sorry.

Willow loves attention and she will make sure you give her plenty. In the evenings she will squeeze between Morné and me.

She loves to lick…. Poor Ogies end up wet more than once a day…. Ogies and Willow gets along so great. She will call Willow and then when Willow gets near she will moan and I will tell Willow to leave Ogies alone. The other day I was standing in my office doorway and I saw something very interesting. Willow was lying under the couch and Ogies was sitting on the chair in the sun. She started moaning looking straight at me. Poor Willow wasn’t even near her. When I did not respond, she moaned even louder. I started wondering how many times Willow was innocent….

On the Willow and Shadow front;

They are still not getting along. When Shadow sees Willow he disappears. My heart is braking and I miss my cuddles with my boy. I wish that Shadow will realize that Willow just wants to play. But taken Shadows past I can understand that he is afraid.

Willow Shenanigans: 3 June 2021

Good day Friends,

Willow has been with us for 3 Weeks. Three very busy weeks. She is like a toddler, when you don’t hear her or see her then you must know she is busy with mischief.

Willow has a fattish with plastic bowls, dishcloths, and towels. I have no idea how I will get her to stop.

I can’t go to the bathroom without her. She will open the door if I close it and then she will come and lie by my feet. If she can’t open the door she will sit and cry until I come out.

Her concentration span is very short and she gets distracted very easily. Training takes a bit longer than I am used to but, just like children, pups have their own pace at developing.

Yesterday while I was busy doing the dishes she threw her ball at my feet. We moved the ball playing to the passage next to the house, it’s under a roof and much dryer than outside especially when it is raining. Also no distractions and it stretches the full length of the house. She gets enough exercise while playing here.

Going for walks is also easier. I found a route with minimum dogs and I also started jogging short distances with her. The short distances is more for me though, I am the one who gets tired of jogging….

My biggest problem with Willow is that I don’t have much information about her past. I am trying to find out a bit more about her first 8 months.

Good Morning: 27 May 2021

Good morning friends,

How are you this morning?

I am doing great this morning. I had a good nights rest and woke up refreshed this morning.

Last night Willow was very naughty she took the microwave cover from the kitchen counter and took it outside and destroyed it. She was also in Lian’s room and took his watch box with watch still inside and took that outside too. Luckily the watch was still in tact but the box was in pieces. We did not make a scene at all. I picked everything up, and as soon as Willow wanted to play I turned my back and I walked away and threw it in the bin. I took Lian his watch and he was pissed.

We are still trying to figure out how to discipline Willow. We don’t know her history and as soon as you pick up a newspaper she makes herself small and retract to a corner. When I catch her in the act and say Uh-uh in a stern voice she seems to react and listen to me. But just like a small child you can’t punish them a hour or so later, you have to catch them in the act.

This morning she is so cute again. I am going to try a new approach today. I am not taking her for a walk today. Have too much work to do. I am going to try to have more playtime with her. Maybe this will help. It will also be good for me. I have been sitting in front of my computer for more than 2 hours at a time. Will let you all know how it worked out.

It is a misty morning outside. According to the weather forecast we are having a maximum temperature of 17°C today. The wind will be picking later today.

Willow keeping herself entertained with dry palm branch.

On my To-Do list today:

  • Edit
  • Work on layout of book
  • Play with Willow
  • Prepare Dinner

With all my heart, thank you for your ongoing support and taking the time to read my post. I am truly grateful for every view, like, follow, and comment I receive.

May you have a day filled with laughter and love.

Willow Shenanigans: 27 May 2021

Willow is adapting very good. She is testing the boundaries on a daily basis.

Every morning she climbs on the bed with me and we cuddle for a while. Sometimes we fall asleep other times she sits and barks at her reflection in the sliding door.

Every morning while waiting for the kettle to boil, Willow and I go outside to feed the birds and clean up the yard and play.

She loves playing ball and with sticks. About 4 days ago she started bringing the ball to me.

At 8:30am we go to my fathers flat to make him breakfast and test his blood sugar. If I am just a few minutes late Willow starts moaning at the sliding door.

I try to take her for walks every day. Even if it is just a short one. I bought her a new training leash and it works like a dream. When we go for walks it start out a bit bumpy but after a few minutes she gets used to it.

In the evenings she lies on the couch with us. When we go to bed she gets up on the bed and as soon as we switch off the light she returns to the couch.

Good Morning: 23 May 2021

Good morning everyone,

I had a good nights rest. Just a few coughing spells during the night.

Willow and Ogies slept on the bed with us.

This morning we had to go and buy some gas and had to leave Willow alone. The house was still in tact but she got digging in my veggie garden.

Now I have to make a plan to keep her out of it.

Will garden in containers so long till I figured something out.

It is a beautiful day here in Cape Town. A light breeze and a maximum temperature of 24°C.

Later we want to bath Willow and then take her for a walk to dry off. Wonder how that will go?

Thank you for your support and taking the time to look at my post.

Have a fabulous day.

Willow Shenanigans: 20 May 2021

Good day everyone,

When I adopted Willow a week ago I never thought that she would settle in so easily.

I am very happy to report that she is now the queen of the castle. She has every one wrapped around her paw.

She loves sleeping under my desk. She is a very busy girl and I have to do as much work as I can while she is sleeping. Since the photos was taken we Willowfied the area under the desk. Don’t want her chewing on the power cords.

Best place ever….
Oooh I am so tired…. Being curious is hard work.
This is my spot. At Mom’s feet while she is working.
Willowfied under the desk
Loves sleeping at Mom’s feet

The first day she made herself at home on Lian’s bed. She also spend her first night with him.

When I tell her no, when she is doing something wrong she runs to his room. Big brother will protect me…

Making herself at home on Lian’s bed.
Keeping Lian company while he is working.
Just love sleeping
“Brrr it is cold so Lian shared his blanket with me. “

Since day one she found her way outside on her own. She loves playing with her toys. I am busy teaching her to bring the ball to me. It takes time but one of these days we will play fetch. I think she is afraid I won’t throw it or stop playing with her when I ask for the ball.

Love Exploring the garden.
It’s my toy…
Chewing on my toy
Love playing with sticks.
Love playing with a stick….

She loves playing with plastic bottles. Just like Ruby did. I first saw her stealing the bottle from the laundry room. I took it from her and gave it to her a day later when she sniffed it. I want to teach her to ask for things not just take.

Keeping myself busy with an empty plastic bottle.

She loves visiting her new grandfather. When she hears him she will sit at the gate and moan. If I don’t come she’ll come and moan next to me. That is my q to take a coffee break, so that we can go visit for a while.

I love visiting grandpa, he always gives me treats…

When we watch TV she is on the couch with us. Some nights even Shadow will come and join us.

Shadow on my right and Willow on my left
“That program is boring I’ll rather sleep.”
The best place in the world next to my mommy.
Resting my head on mommies leg. That’s life….

She slept with us on the bed for 2 nights, but I think I am to restless for her liking. She will jump off and go sleep on her blanket on the couch. She don’t like the dog bed at all. She likes to sleep all stretched out, and then she doesn’t fit in the bed. Maybe she will use it when she is older.

Willow and all the other pets are getting along great. It is just Shadow that needs to warm up to her. But they are eating in the same room, and sometimes they are close enough so that I can stroke both of them at the same time. We are making progress slowly but surely.

Willow loves chewing on anything she can carry in her mouth. She loves water and put her paws in the water bowl when she drinks. She has a thing for eggshells.

Well that’s it for now friends. I will keep you updated.

Please pardon the quality of some of the photos. I took it with my phone and did not always have the time to finetune the settings. Just had to snap to get the moment.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to look at my post.

Have a wonderful day.

Shadow VS Willow

At first Shadow was affraid of Willow. The first evening we managed to get Shadow and Willow on the couch. Both sleeping. The same last night. I was so proud of the two.

I was very surprised to see Shadow sleeping on the couch during the night, while Willow slept on the bed.

During the night something changed, this mirning Shadow had so much confidence and for the first time he hissed and growl at Willow.

Now the roles has changed. Willow is very cautious of Shadow. Shadow hiss at Willow and then Willow retreats. Shadow sit on the corners of the furniture and as soon as Willow wants to pass he hiss and growl.

I do hope they sort out their differences because both are loved. Both of them like to play and if they can just get along they will realize it.

So  we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Welcome to the family Willow!

This morning Lian and I went to fetch Willow the newest member of our family.

She is a 8 month old Labrador. We had no problems with her on the way home. When we got home she got out of the car and began exploring immediately.

She knows where her food and water bowl is, and she goes outside without an escort to do her thing.

After leaving her alone so that she can explore on her own I came to do some editing. She followed me and came to lie under my desk at my feet. She can snore up a storm…

So far so good. She was introduced to all the pets in the house. Only Shadow is not very happy with her. I hope he will learn to accept her though. She is so sweet and they are both energetic and I think they will enjoy each others company.

I feel super Blessed to be given the opportunity to give Willow her forever home.

Looking forward to a many years of making memories with Willow.

How does Willow Wednesday sound?

Thank you for your ongoing support and taking the time to visit my blog.

Have a wonderful day.
