PS. I am saving up for upcoming Landscape Photography Trips to Scotland and Namibia and a few road trips in the USA, including Route 66 and The historic Apache Trail. Also on my list are National Parks and Botanical gardens in South Africa, the UK, and the USA.
The most important photography trip for me is to return to Scotland. I am honoring my promise to my Father to return and capture the beautiful landscapes and the elusive Puffins. Your help to make these trips a reality would be much appreciated in today’s economy.

The greater flamingo, Phoenicopterus roseus, is the most widespread and significant species of the flamingo family. It is found in Africa, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and southern Europe.
Adult greater flamingos have few natural predators. Eggs and chicks may be eaten by raptors, crows, gulls, and the marabou stork (Leptoptilos crumenifer); an estimated half of the predation of greater flamingo eggs and chicks is from the yellow-legged gull (Larus michahellis)
The primary threats to flamingo populations are bacteria, toxins, and pollution in water supplies, which is usually run-off from manufacturing companies, and encroachment on their habitat.
Description:
The greater flamingo is the largest living species, averaging 110–150 cm (43–59 in) tall and weighing 2–4 kg (4.4–8.8 lb). The largest male flamingos have been recorded at up to 187 cm (74 in) tall and 4.5 kg (9.9 lb).
Most plumage is pinkish-white, but the wing coverts are red, and the primary and secondary flight feathers are black. The bill is pink with a restricted black tip, and the legs are entirely pink. The call is a goose-like honking.
Chicks are covered in fluffy gray down. Subadult flamingos are paler with dark legs. Adults feeding chicks also become paler but retain the bright pink legs. The coloration comes from the carotenoid pigments in the organisms that live in their feeding grounds. Secretions of the uropygial gland also contain carotenoids.
During the breeding season, greater flamingos increase the frequency of spreading uropygial secretions over their feathers, enhancing their color. This cosmetic use of uropygial secretions has been described as applying “make-up.”
Habitat:
The greater flamingo resides in mudflats and shallow coastal lagoons with salt water. Using its feet, the bird stirs up the mud, then sucks water through its bill and filters out small shrimp, seeds, blue-green algae, microscopic organisms, and mollusks. The greater flamingo feeds with its head down, and its upper jaw is movable and not rigidly fixed to its skull.
Like all flamingos, this species lays a chalky-white egg on a mud mound.

Bombycomorpha is a genus of moths in the family Lasiocampidae.
Description:
The caterpillars are brightly colored and conspicuously hairy, while the bulky adult moths are mostly brown and much less striking in appearance.
The larvae are distinctly hairy, with rows of orange tufts of long hair along the sides of the body. Arranged at the head are three large coppery tufts and two smaller purple tufts. Along the dorsal side of the caterpillars is a row of black triangles flanked on either side by white
Habitat:
There is little agreement regarding the extent of the Cape lappet moth’s range in southern Africa. At the same time, all sources agree that its primary geographical home is in South Africa; varied sources also state Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania. Being able to feed on various plants, the caterpillars are common in domestic gardens and in more remote and wild areas.

Yellow-eye Wood Sorrel (Oxalis obtusa) can be annuals or perennials with three to ten leaflets. Due to their similar appearance, these plants are often mistakenly referred to as clover. Several cultivars are grown as container plants, while others are used in ornamental gardens. Foliage color ranges from light green to dark purple.
Description:
Leaves color green in obcordate (heart shape). The leaves grow in groups of three heart shapes connected in the base of the heart and create a radial profile.
The flower color can be: pink, white, orange, purple, or yellow; the inner part is yellow, the flower has 5 petals, the petals emerge together in the base of the flower, and the size of the flower is 2.5+ cm, and the flower grows in a cluster.
Habitat:
Herbaceous geophyte of the genus Oxalis also known as Obtusa woodsorrel, Oxalis obtusa perennial summer deciduous plant used as an ornamental plant for flowers and can grow in Mediterranean or subtropical climates. Mainly from South Africa’s Western Cape province and Namaqualand.
