While driving through Potsberg dad and I spotted a Cattle Egret looking for food. Not long afterwards it was successful and caught a scorpion.
We sat by the side of the road for quite a while watching it fight with the scorpion. This was a first for me. Even dad said he never saw one eat a scorpion before.
This is the reason why I love photography and spending time in nature. One always see something new and if you have your camera with you one can document what you saw…
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Ostriches are very big birds that can’t fly…. But oh my word they can run very fast and they lay very big eggs….
I used to love to listen to the stories my mother told me about her childhood vacations on the Ostrich farm were her grandparents stayed. She told me how she and her nephew use to go play in the Ostrich penns. They were not aware that it was breeding season and got to close to the eggs. Mom told us that she never knew she can run that fast or jump over the fence….
When I was about 10 years old my parents took us to Oudtshoorn known for all it’s Ostrich farms. My mom also showed us were she spent her school holidays. I remembered that holiday as if it was yesterday. Sitting on the back of that big bird and feeding it. I found it very interesting that Ostriches eats stones well everything they can swallow to be honest. They really like shiny things too.
Ostrich eggs are very big and srong. One can stand on it and it won’t break. I would never believed it but I saw it with my own two eyes. One Ostrich egg equals 24 eggs and it is a taste to get use to. I personally love it especially when you make omelettes of it.
While visiting the Westcoast National Park last year for the first time I had the opportunity to take some awesome photo’s of the Ostriches in a field of yellow flowers.
Thank you for taking the time to read this blog.

Tortoises are more visible these days in The Westcoast National Park. Maybe it is just because they have grown and are bigger so one sees them better….
I was very lucky this time around they did not all head for the bushes when I got out to take some photo’s of the.
Thank you for stopping by. Have a Blessed day.

I read on Instagram that in 1930 there were only 30 Bontebok left in the world….
According to Wikipedia they were killed as pests and at one stage only 17 existed.
Today Bontebok are only found in South Africa in protective areas like our Sanparks.
I was lucky and got a awesome photo opportunity when I visited The West Coast National Park and Potsberg in September last year. The Bontebok walked straight to my car like a model and looked straight into the lens….
At another spot I captured a few in a field. When I edited the photos I spotted a calf and his mom….

While driving in Postberg you spot a lot of beautiful flowers but one can’t really take nice photo’s from your car. One have to get out and get in close. Only then do you find hidden gems.
I tried to identify the flowers by going through my books. I use Wild Flowers of South Africa by Braam van Wyk, Field Guide to Wild Flowers of South Africa and also Field Guide to Fynbos by John Manning. My only problem is some of the photo’s are so small and some only taken from different angles than mine that I struggled to identify them 100%..
I can only blame myself too. At one stage I was quite clued up on my flower. But if you don’t refresh your mind every now and then one seems to forget… So I have just decided to work on this again. I have so many files with photo’s of flowers, plants and trees. Maybe I must start identifying them and get a expert who will be willing to help me. What do you think?
Thank you for taking the time to look at my work. Please feel free to comment on my work. I believe that one can only learn from others and your mistakes.
Potsberg has some of the most beautiful landscapes. I just love capturing them. During flowerseason it just take it to the next level…
In the past there were more colors visible but due to the drought we had the yellow flowers took over and only here and there you stil had patches of purple, pink and white flowers. Don’t get me wrong it is still awesome and I got some beautiful photos with Bontebok and Ostrich. These I will share at a later stage….
Due to the fact that my trigger finger worked overtime I need to split our Potsberg visit in 3 posts….
Thank you for stopping by my blog. Hope you enjoyed your visit. Please let me know what you think of my work. Have a Blessed week.
Yellow reminds me of the sun my favorite fruit bananas and also lemons…
On the spectrum of visible light yellow lies between orange and green.
Yellow is also associated with different feelings in different countries and cultures.
Yellow is the color people most often associate with amusement, gentleness, humor, wisdom, happiness, glory, wisdom, and spontaneity. Yellow can also be associated with negative feelings like envy, jealousy, cowardice and sickness.
In photography you get to work closely with this color when editing and fine tuning you photos.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my work. Please feel free to comment and like my post.
Pink is a color between red and white on the color spectrum. The color got it’s name from a flower also called Pinks.
Pink is the color most often associated with charm, politeness, sensitivity, tenderness, sweetness, childhood, femininity and the romantic.
A combination of pink and white is associated with innocence.
We also wear a pink ribbon for Cancer awareness and here in South Africa National sport teams also wear pink for Cancer awareness.
I love pink, but I am not a big fan in wearing light colors. I would rather wear darker colors.

I have been visiting the Westcoast National Park for years now and never turned of to Tsaarbank…
This time we decided to go and have a look hoping that we don’t need a 4×4. Honestly I was under the impression that it was just a heap of white sand…. Well I could not have been more wrong… It is absolutely stunning and I want to kick myself everytime I think of what great photo opportunities I have missed….
I took some awesome photos of the waves crashing against the rocks. I only stayed in the parking lot because dad was with me and I don’t like leaving him alone. Dad would not have minded if I wandered of to explore more but that’s just not me.
There is nothing better than to visit the park when you have someone with you that shares in your love for nature and photography.
While busy writing this post I had a light bulb moment. Maybe I must plan a day trip and we can spend the day at Tsaarbank. There’s a nice beach and great picnic and braai area…
Here are some of the photos I took at Tsaarbank.
Well well my name will not be Coreen if I end up somewhere where I am not supposed to be….
On our way to Geelbek I saw a sign Mooimaak, well I took the turn off because there was no do not enter signs… It has been a while since I visited the park and thought may it’s a new road… Needless to say I was wrong it was a dead end and seems more for mountain biking….
I am very glad I took the turn off got some beautiful photos on this stretch of road…
As per tradition we always have a coffee break at Geelbek. This is also a good time to stretch our legs and well have a bathroom break.
Our next stop is Potsberg….
Hallo there hope everything is well on your end.
Our next stop while visiting The Westcoast National Park is Seeberg Viewpoint.
This brought back memories of our previous visit while mom was still alive… She loved coming to the park.
The wind was blowing and it was very chilly but that did not stop us from exploring. The views were extra beautiful with the grey sky and yellow blanket of flowers…
One observation I made during our stop at Seeberg was that the yellow flowers have taken over and only a few white, orange and purple flowers was spotted.
Dad and I talked about it and came to the conclusion that the yellow flowers must be more drought resistant…. Well that’s just our observation….
As we entered the park from the Langebaan entrance our first stop is the Seeberg Birdhide.
Over the past few years visiting the park one notice the change in scenery. I love walking on the walkway and capturing my surroundings.
But that day we were not able to leisurely strole down the wooden walkway as always. It started raining. We were very happy about the rain though. Our dams in the Western Cape was at a critical low before the winter and we needed every drop of water we could get.
From a photographers point of view. A cloudy day always makes beautiful photos and the light is perfect. Only down side was the flowers did not open until it was a bit warmer…. But I still had the beautiful landscapes…..
I hope you enjoyed your walk with us. Our next stop will be The Seeberg lookout…..
Good day everyone…
Well, after our quick stop in Hopefield, we were on our way to Yzerfontein to have breakfast at the farm stall there… On our way I realized I took the wrong turn off I was supposed to go through Darling instead of Hopefield. This was not a trainsmash instead we headed to Langebaan.
We went to the beach area and parked the car. It was early and most of the businesses was still closed. Then dad showed me that Driftwoods just put out their sign. I asked them if they were open for breakfast yet. The manager said they are busy prepping the kitchen but we are more than welcome to have a cup of coffee so long.
It was a beautiful cloudy and cool morning and we wanted a table with a nice view. We ordered our coffee and started going through the menu to see what we would like for breakfast. As luck would have it I had to pick up on a typo on their new menu’s. Yes I think I am cursed I always pick up on simple stuff like that.
It was not long after they served us our coffee that the waiter said they are ready to take our order…. When dad ordered his breakfast the waiter looked as if he never heard of it before. He asked dad if he can please say it again. Dad repeated his order. I could clearly see the waiter was a bit confused. I then showed the waiter the two menus and he called the manager. We all had a good laugh over the typo.
I can absolutely with no doubt in my mind refer Driftwood’s for your next or future visit to Langebaan. The service is excellent, the food delicious and the staff was very friendly and one felt at home…
We are off to the Westcoast National Park…. Watch this space…
Last year my Dad and I went to the Westcoast National Park for the first time since my mom passed away in 2015.
On our way there we made a quick stop in Hopefield. I have passed this little town so many times in the past and never took any photos of it. It was raining so I just took photos of the church and the road coming in to town…
Next time I would like to spend more time capturing this little town.
