Grand Tour of Scotland 26 & 27 August 2019: Day 16 and 17 – Isle of Mull to Edinburgh

Good day,

Sorry I have not been posting the past few days.

When we got to Edinburgh on the 27th my phone got stolen along with my credit card and drivers license. I lost over 800 photo’s and memories taken with my phone.

Everything is replaceble except my memories. All the selfies of dad and myself… Gone due to one or other person with long fingers.

On the positive side I got a new phone, new card and new photo on my driver’s license… And I still have 17000+ photos to edit taken with my camera.

Please be patient over the course of the the next few months I will bombard you with all the beautiful sights of Scotland.

Thank you for taking the time to discover Scotland with us.

Good day everyone,

We drove from St Andrews along the coast to Aberdeen.

The positive side is I saw a lot of places not on our itinerary…

I did not capture that much on my phone. But here are some random photos.

Counting down the days…. Scotland are you ready?

Hi everyone,

Well now it is getting real…. Last week we got our visas, yesterday I finished our detailed itinerary and today it’s 26 days before we depart for Scotland.

You are going to think I am crazy, but I have packed my suitcase and weighed it. Unpacked it and put everything together. I have plenty of kilograms left for gifts and information leavelets….

I have made my checklists for what to buy for trip and what to pack. Tomorrow I am buying the last few things then I am ready to start packing and go and explore beautiful Scotland and the Outer Hebrides.

I worked on our detailed itinerary in the early mornings before I start working, during my lunch hour, at night after we had supper and over the weekends. Did research, draw up a list of places I would like to capture and visit. Over a period of nearly 6 month’s of adding and removing places. Changing our routes to cover as much as possible I am finally finished…

Now I am busy drafting my travel blog so that I can just add photos and some details of what happend on the day. Our days are going to be packed and I will only post late at night or very early the next morning. So to save time do drafts to make it a bit easier for me.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my blog.

Berghoff Fynbos Farm Part 10 of 10

Well it has been an absolute pleasure sharing our weekend at Berghoff Fynbos Farm with you all here on my blog.

Here’s a few more photo’s I took before heading back home…

We had a awesome time although on our way back home Mornè’s car broke. I would not recommend that you go to visit in a normal sedan. Normal cars are not made to withstand that bumpy road. Don’t get me wrong if the roads were in better condition even though it is a dirtroad I would surely visit more often. Unfortunately I do not have a 4×4 or a vehicle that can take the punch.

So to sum up the only reason at this stage that is keeping me from going back is the road. I am not afraid of dirt roads and I love driving on them but the damage and costs involved to fix your car is just too much.

The views on your way back are absolutely stunning….

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work and I look forward to sharing more of my travels with you.

Berghoff Fynbos Farm Part 9 of 10

After our walk it was time to cool down. The kids spend the most of the day on the water in the canoe and the little boat.

Lian my youngest love to try out new things and it was no surprise when he took out the canoe and boat for a spin on the water.

It was nice and cool down by the pond.

Armand my oldest is not really physical guy. He will be found in front of his computer either playing games, watching movies or series. I was very surprised when I saw him in the boat with his brother from the house. I grabbed my camera and took some photos. Then Desiree and I walked down to the pond to have a closer look.

Desiree is not really one who likes to try new things. Armand has this power of pursuasion and after a while she was in the boat and enjoying herself. Later Lian took the rope of the boat tied it to his canoe and started pulling her to the center of the pond. Untied her and left her there so that she have to paddle back to land.

Aran my brother’s little boy is just like his dad and nephew Lian. Love taking chances and trying out something new.

The biggest kid of all, my brother took Morgan out on the water too. She did not want to get out of the boat after that….

During our walk we saw a “fountain” or so we thought anyway. When we got closer and saw the pipes on the ground we figured out that our “fountain” is just a broken pipe.

That did not stop us from taking advantage of it to cool down before we start walking again.

Desiree did not want to get wet and Dad and Armand dragged her in the water. She laughed so much it did not take them long before she was soaked. We had such a laugh.

I am very glad that my boys are so close with their Grandfather and both of them reminds me alot of my Father. They love playing tricks on people and can be very naughty in a good way of course.

Berghoff Fynbos Farm Part 3 of 10

Nothing beats a glass of gin, cranberry juice and tonic while sitting and enjoying the sounds and views before sunset….

Birds calling to one another while getting ready for bed… Even the insects are more noisy than during the day…

Then there is my dad collecting extra wood so that we can make a “geselsvuurtjie” as he calls it. Let me explain this is the fire that is made after the food is finished and we all gather around the fire and sit and talk… These are precious times that I will cherish for the rest of my life….

Berghoff Fynbos Farm Part 1/10

Dad turned 72 in December 2018 and for the first time in years we went away as a family.

My dad Ivan, myself, my two handsome boys Armand, Lian, my boyfriend Mornè, his daughter Desiree, my Brother Wouter, his wife Kathleen, their two little ones Aran and Morgan. Never since I moved out of the house have we went away as a family.

Spending time with family is very important to me.

Berghoff Fynbos Farm is a great place to have a break from the hustle and bustle of city live.

I told the children we would be cut off from the outside world, but to our surprise when we got there they left us a Wi-Fi code. The children were in 7th heaven but to my surprise they did not sit looking at their little screens the whole day.

We played fingerboard and later they started playing cards.

As I share more photos of our visit to Berghoff I will tell you some more about our weekend.

Big birds, big eggs and childhood memories…..

Ostriches are very big birds that can’t fly…. But oh my word they can run very fast and they lay very big eggs….

I used to love to listen to the stories my mother told me about her childhood vacations on the Ostrich farm were her grandparents stayed. She told me how she and her nephew use to go play in the Ostrich penns. They were not aware that it was breeding season and got to close to the eggs. Mom told us that she never knew she can run that fast or jump over the fence….

When I was about 10 years old my parents took us to Oudtshoorn known for all it’s Ostrich farms. My mom also showed us were she spent her school holidays. I remembered that holiday as if it was yesterday. Sitting on the back of that big bird and feeding it. I found it very interesting that Ostriches eats stones well everything they can swallow to be honest. They really like shiny things too.

Ostrich eggs are very big and srong. One can stand on it and it won’t break. I would never believed it but I saw it with my own two eyes. One Ostrich egg equals 24 eggs and it is a taste to get use to. I personally love it especially when you make omelettes of it.

While visiting the Westcoast National Park last year for the first time I had the opportunity to take some awesome photo’s of the Ostriches in a field of yellow flowers.

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog.

Playing hide and seek…

Tortoises are more visible these days in The Westcoast National Park. Maybe it is just because they have grown and are bigger so one sees them better….

I was very lucky this time around they did not all head for the bushes when I got out to take some photo’s of the.

Thank you for stopping by. Have a Blessed day.

Yellow….

Yellow reminds me of the sun my favorite fruit bananas and also lemons…

On the spectrum of visible light yellow lies between orange and green.

Yellow is also associated with different feelings in different countries and cultures.

Yellow is the color people most often associate with amusement, gentleness, humor, wisdom, happiness, glory, wisdom, and spontaneity. Yellow can also be associated with negative feelings like envy, jealousy, cowardice and sickness.

In photography you get to work closely with this color when editing and fine tuning you photos.
