For a while now I wanted to go and visit Sonstraaldam. It’s a dam only a few kilometers away from my home and it is rich with bird life. The day I decided to go I took my student so that she could capture the different lines in photo’s. I of course spend my time capturing mostly the bird life. It was raining, cloudy and cold and allot of the birds I spotted on my previous visits was not to be seen. I want to go back when it’s sunny and a bit warmer. Preferably early morning. Here are some of the photo’s I took on my visit

What a lovely winters day did we have. The sun was shining and we just had a light breeze here in Benoni.
Ronald, the boys and I went down to the lake again. I hoped to capture some close ups of the little Coot chicks but they were to far and the rest was between the reeds.
Yesterday we walked only to the one side and today we went in the opposite direction. We got to a spot where the geese was bathing and I spotted a LBJ with one long beak. Just when I had it in my sight and pressed the shutter button it flew off… So before Friday I want a photo of that specific LBJ. We were very lucky to see the Geese bathing and I got some lovely shots of them spreading their wings.
Yesterday Hubby saw a blue bird and today we saw it again at the same spot. It was a Kingfisher I did get some shots of it but once again I want to get closer so tomorrow morning I’m waiting for it. It’s times like these that I wish I had a 500mm lens…
What a lazy day we had today. Watched some movies and this afternoon we went to the conservation area about 5 minutes walk from our friends house.
The wind was ice cold but we went anyway. One can’t just sit and do nothing the whole time even if you are on holiday. At the lake we saw Coot’s, Ducks, Geese, Gulls and allot of LBJ’s.
I want to go down to the lake again tomorrow. There are little Coot chicks and want to see if I can get closer and get a better shot of them.
