Winter wonderland
I tried capturing photos with my Canon and telephoto lens while driving but most of the photos came out blurry. Not due to the speed we traveled but the way the truck shook. I could not keep the camera steady enough.
Christo bought me a phone so that I can stay in touch with my loved ones at home. I am very happy with it and the camera is fantastic and I am enjoying playing around with all the settings.

Good morning: 12 December 2021
Good morning everyone,
Today I wanted to go and take the photos for the last part of my assignment. But unfortunately it did not work out as planned.
While we was busy getting ready to go, Willow knew something was going to happen and every time I walked towards the kitchen she darted out of the back door waiting for me. I felt guilty not walking her this week so I had a look and saw that Signal Hill do allow dogs. I then told Morné we can take her with.
On our way there I saw that I would not get my City view from Signal Hill. The clouds was to thick and to low. I had a certain view in mind and it will not work if there is clouds in the way. We then decided to go to Table Bay and Eden on the Bay to take a photo of Cape Towns biggest Tourist attraction through the frame.
Willow enjoyed the walk on the beach. I am still not feeling myself and got so tired we had to go back to the car after about 15 minutes of walking on the sand. Willow could also not go in the water because we did not plan on coming to the beach and we did not pack any towels to dry her.
After our walk we headed to Eden on the Bay where I asked a dad and his two children if they would mind posing for my assignment photo. In return I’ll send him the photo.
I am a bit disappointed that I could not finish up my assignment today, but at least Willow had her outing and I had some exercise and fresh air.
I will have to try again in the week. I have to submit before I leave.

Good Morning: 14 November 2021
Good morning friends,
We had a very early morning. The Alarm went of at 4:10am. We left home at 4:50am.
You may wonder why? This morning was my first of 4 visits to Blaauwberg for my coastal photography for my assignment, and also for the Sony World Photography competition. This morning it was low tide at sunrise. Next is high tide at sunrise and then the same for sunset.
I already had an idea where I wanted to take the photo. Now I have to decide what time. Here is some photos I took from the spot.
After I took my photos for my recce visit we took Willow for a walk or must I say run on the beach. She enjoyed it a lot, but she can tell you herself tomorrow.
We got home at 7:50am.
Since then I have had coffee, fed the 4 legged children and winged friends in the garden. We washed the vehicles and now we are watching Christmas movies.
It is going to be a hot Spring day.

Good day friends,
I hope everybody had a good nights rest.
I got up at 7:00am this morning, got dressed, and went outside to throw out the kitchen trash. Willow dug a new hole yesterday right where the Fiber cable is. I filled it up with sand and stones. I have no idea what Willow does with the sand that she dugs out because there is never enough to even fill it up halfway.
I am still feeling very tired this morning. If I feel like this tomorrow again I will have to go to the doctor. I think I may have tick bite fever, I can remember feeling like this the previous time I wat bitten by a tick. The previous time I got a tick on myself.
After every photography outing where I am exposed to ticks and crawling around on the floor, I fully inspect myself for ticks, but I have not found any on myself. I did find some on my shoes and pants.
According to the weather forecast, we are having a cool, cloudy and windy Spring day. With a maximum temperature of 20°C and winds up to 32 km/h.

I hope everybody had a good nights rest.
Did not sleep a lot last night, woke up a few times during the night and then I struggled to fall asleep again.
I got up at 7:00am this morning, got dressed, and went outside to throw out the kitchen trash. Willow dug a few holes yesterday and I filled them up. Then I watered the garden with the rainwater we collected.
I did not feel like yogurt and muesli this morning, so I made us Jungle Oats. Dad got excited when he saw what porridge I prepared this morning.
According to the weather forecast, we are having a cool, cloudy and windy Spring day. With a maximum temperature of 22°C and winds up to 21 km/h.

Good Morning: 3 November 2021
Good day friends,
I hope everybody had a good nights rest.
I woke up with one killer headache this morning around 5:00am. I got out of bed went to the bathroom and got back into bed. Morné left before 6:00am and as usual brought me some coffee in my Starbucks flask. I said goodbye and then fell asleep only to wake up at 8:00am. I got up, got dressed, made the bed, switched on the dishwasher, fed the pets, sorted the laundry, and then went to dad’s flat. I loaded the first load of laundry into the washing machine, set the timer on my phone, prepared dad’s breakfast, and took it to him.
It is 10:00am and I still haven’t had one drop of my coffee. I am now going to sit back and drink my coffee.

Good Morning: 1 November 2021
Good day friends,
I hope everybody had a good nights rest.
We got up very early this morning to go to the voting polls. What a joke!
Dad and I have been bombarded by telephone calls over the past few weeks telling us where we are registered to vote. Well this morning dad and I went to our designated voting station. We got there before the voting polls open. In the past the IEC officials took the pensioners out of the line and showed them indoors where there is chairs for them to sit. Well not at our voting station.
First of all we stood in the wind for more than half an hour. Then when we got inside we waited another half an hour in line before we went into the voting hall. The person who was suppose to look for my surname looked for Kuhn under the M’s. One should think that a person dealing with surnames must be able to read properly and also know the alphabet. In the end I had to tell him where to find my surname. I was not very impressed… After voting I went outside and dad was waiting for me.
When I reached dad he told me that he is not registered to vote here. This after more than one person who phoned him told him this is his voting station. On our way to the car and dad clearly ranting and raving over the incompetence of the people. The next moment I saw dad falling and he ended up face down on the tar. Three grown men rushed to help dad up and I did a quick survey of wounds and if anything is broken.
He had a headwound that was bleeding a lot on the way home, but I always have a sealed packet of tissues in my pocket and gave dad one to please keep it on the wound till we get home. When we got home we had a closer look and after pulling up his jeans leg we saw a open gash on his knee. His jeans does not even have a scratch or a tear. I cleaned his wounds and put on some Betadine ointment and stayed with him for a while just to see if he is sleepy. I will keep a close eye on him today.

Good Morning: 29 October 2021
Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful night’s rest? I was very tired last night and was so happy that we had loadshedding at 10:00pm again so that I can go to bed earlier than usual.
I got up at 6:30am this morning, Ogies was moaning in my ears for food. There is no Botterblom visit today though. I have to catch up on editing with the loadshedding schedule we had this week I am running behind. We have loadshedding again today at 12:00pm to 2:30pm. Today we are staying home and I am going to read a book or work in the garden, if it is not raining outside.
Loadshedding has it’s positives too. Instead of sitting at home doing nothing, Willow and I go out for a walk and discover new parks and nature reserves for my project.
Yesterday we went to Boland Dam Dog Park. I passed it every time I go to Botterblom Nature Reserve, and I keep telling myself I must take Willow there for a walk. It is beautiful and they are busy building shelters over the table and chairs. The only real shade is under a big tree, the rest of the park has no shade. Good for early morning and late afternoon walks on hot days. It is not a big park and the main attraction is the dam. Willow met some new dogs and I am very happy that she is not an aggressive dog. I am always afraid that the other dogs she come across will bite or hurt her. But so far we have not encountered any on our walks. We did walk in an area with very long grass on the other side of the dam, but it was as if Willow did not like it at all. She really pulled me till we got to the part where the grass and vegetation was shorter. Maybe she heard something because she was very alert. I don’t think I will walk in that part again. I will rather stick to the circle route around the dam and playpark area.
To be honest, I love taking Willow out on walks. Somedays she gives me a full body workout, other days she is calm and don’t even pull. I also enjoy walking with her more at Sonstraal Dam. Don’t get me wrong. I love exploring new places with her, but so far Sontraal Dam is our favorite. That is until we find a new favorite park that is….

Hope you all had a peaceful night’s rest. I slept like a log.
I got up at 5:10am this morning to go to Botterblom Nature Reserve AGAIN. I left home at 5:45am and got home at 9:10am. I learned from yesterdays mistake and made sure that the Image Stabilizer was switched on. It was a beautiful morning and I now know exactly what the Universe had planned. While looking for yesterdays blurred flowers I came across even more flowers and the most beautiful abstract landscape compositions. There is always a positive in a negative situation. I love how the Universe work.
After I finished recapturing the flowers I went to the pond and drank my coffee. I got out my 70-300mm and captured a few photos of the birds.

Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful night’s rest. I slept like a log.
I got up at 4:45am this morning to go to Botterblom Nature Reserve. I left home at 5:20am and got home at 9:10am. It was a beautiful morning and I was blessed with hardly any wind and a few clouds in the sky. I did make on boo boo this morning. When I use my lens on the tripod I switch off the image stabilizer. I used my 18-55mm for pond photos, and then I switch to my 70-300mm for birding. I then switch back to my 18-55mm and forgot to switch image stabilizer on again 🤦♀️ I took hundreds of flower photos handheld, with my camera bag on my back. I only realized this when I got home and took my lens out of my bag to clean it. I just hope my hand was steady enough while photographing the flowers… I will not make that mistake again…
What really matters is that I got up, got out and enjoyed the shoot. I could not believe when I got to the car and saw that it was 9:00am. I was walking, shooting and discovering the most beautiful little flowers. Now keep your fingers crossed that at least one of these came out.
While busy writing this blog, I am watching some YouTube videos and I am very happy to say that I am not the first one who made this mistake…

Good Morning: 26 October 2021
Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful night’s rest.
I got up at 7:10am this morning. If it weren’t for Ogies I would still be sleeping. Yesterday’s outing to Botterblom Nature Reserve was super fun, but now my brain is working in overdrive. I have so many compositions in mind and I can’t wait to go there again.
Yesterday was supposed to be Laundry day, but the washing powder was finished and dad forgot to tell me we used the last bag. We went to the shop yesterday afternoon and got some.
I have already loaded the first load and gave dad his breakfast. Now I am going to start editing the rest of yesterday’s photos. I am curious to see how it looks and then do my planning for tomorrow morning.
They say it is going to be cloudy and that works in my favor for some drama in the air. I will have to see about the wind though. But this will only affect my long exposure photos and my flower photos. If the wind is a problem I can switch over to my long 70-300mm lens and do some birding photography. There is so much to capture in that little Nature Reserve.

Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful nights rest. It has been a very windy and stormy night here by us.
This morning I went outside to feed the birds and it started raining very hard.
At the moment we are trying to collect as much of the rain water we can. The holes in the braairoom’s roof makes this easy. Morné also devised a plan to collect some of the rain water and storing it in a large oil drum. It got filled in only half a night of rain. W are looking for another Oil container like this to put beneath the existing one. But for now we use that space to store what is left of the patio chairs.

Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful nights rest and are ready for this very windy Thursday.
I woke up early this morning and wanted to go for a another recce visit to Stellenryk Park, but it was so windy and I did not feel like getting out of bed.
Then I remembered what Thomas Heaton said, “You have to be in it to win it”. So I decided that I would take Willow for a walk while I have a look at the very small Woodland from different angles. More on the recce mission in another post later today.
Later this morning I have a eye test and then I can get started on editing.

Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful nights rest and are ready for this beautiful sunny Wednesday.
After doing the cleaning and laundry yesterday, I started feeling very bad. The same tired feeling I had when I had Covid beginning of September. They did say that I will experience some flu like symptoms, but I really felt bad. This morning I am feeling a bit better, but I am going to take it easy today.
As you have noticed over the past few months I have made a few changes here on my blog. I am also busy changing the direction of my photography. I love capturing nature and landscapes, and after I finished my diploma I made a decision to rather focus my talents it. After looking at the photo books of the International Landscape Photographer of the year competition I decided that I am going to enter 4 photos into the 2023 competition. What do I have to loose? It would be a honor just to be published in the book as one of the 101 photos of the year.
But before I can do that I have to focus on my assignment. From November on I will be out on the road a lot to go and capture the photos for my assignment.
I also downloaded an additional weather app called Clear Outside. This App gives me a little more information that I need for my Landscape Photography like the different cloud cover and fog.

Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful nights rest and are ready for this beautiful sunny Tuesday.
Yesterday I got my second vaccination. This morning I can hardly move my arm and I do have light cold symptoms. I will drink something for it after I have finished this post.
I did go and buy myself cross trainers yesterday. Hi-Tec Warrior II Trail. This was the only shoe I could find in black and that has enough grip. In my price range off course. I prefer New Balance or Asics but they did not have what I was looking for. I will only be using these when I go to parks and take Willow for a walk. I will use my Hi-tec Hiking boots for the rest.

I have a busy morning ahead. Going for my vaccine and then I HAVE to go buy my cross trainers. I keep saying I am going to and then when I see the mall is too busy for my liking I just leave it. But today I have to, mine is really coming apart now.
We are not doing laundry today we are going to do it tomorrow when it is a bit warmer.
According to the weather forecast we are having a lovely wet, windy and cold day. With a maximum temperature of 20 °C. They predicted winds of up to 28km/h during the day.

Last night I decided to go and take photos of a small woodland not far from my home. I asked Morné if he can accompany me because I was not sure if it would be safe. More on this in a post later today.
Today I am taking it easy, going to watch some videos on YouTube. Edit some more photos of my Grand Tour of Scotland.

I woke up at 5:40am this morning. I looked outside my window, it was getting lighter but the wind was blowing and it was raining. I went back to bed. I am burning to go to Botterblom Nature Reserve to take some photos.
Today I am taking it easy, going to watch some videos on YouTube. Edit some more photos of my Grand Tour of Scotland and then schedule some posts for the upcoming week.

Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful nights rest and are ready for this beautiful cool day.
I got up just before 6:00am this morning. Willow and I went on a recce outing this morning, but more on this on a separate post later today. All that I can say is that I have a new photography project and I am looking forward to start with it.
The wind was cold and it looked like rain and I did not take any protective clothing with me, not even an umbrella. Willow enjoyed the outing and was very good until we got back to the car. This is a new thing. At home she can’t wait to get in the car. But when we have to go home after our walk she’s like a stubborn donkey and then go lie on the ground like a child when throwing a tantrum. She won’t get into the car. I have to pick her up and put her in the car….

Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful nights rest and are ready for this beautiful day.
Yesterday while we had load shedding Willow and I went for a walk at Sonstraaldam. There was a few people walking their dogs and Willow sniffed every tree and and every bin on the route. There was also a dead guinea fowl at the one tree. On our walk Willow did not really worry with the Guinea Fowl on our circle route, She was more into the trees. It was very hot and after 4km I decided it was time to go to the car for some water. Willow was very tired and hot, when we got to the car she went and lay down on the cool grass while I poured water in her bowl. She finished her water and we went home.
Last night the rain came down hard and the wind was blowing like mad. I looked at the tree branches moving with the wind and fell asleep.
According to the weather forecast we are having a lovely cloudy and cool day. With a maximum temperature of 18 °C.

- Take Dad to the bank and Pharmacy
- Buy myself new cross trainers. (Mine is falling apart, but they are soooo comfortable.)

Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful nights rest and are ready for this Wonderful Wednesday.
Yesterday we had load shedding and they forgot to turn it back on at 8:30am. They only turned it back on at 11:00. The only downside of having fiber now is when the power goes out we don’t have any internet connection.
I am fine with it, I go outside and work in the garden or clean the house. I don’t need power or the internet to do that. Lian on the other hand needs power and the internet to do his work. Yesterday he had to get out his laptop, luckily it was charged and I borrowed him my phone so that he can use it as hotspot to do his work. The electricity came on just in time, because his laptop battery was on the verge of dying.
Yesterday evening we was supposed to have load shedding from 10:00pm to 12:30am but at 9:24pm everything went dark here in Kraaifontein. Why do they even bother giving us schedules when they just switch it on and off whenever they want to.
Today we have load shedding again at 12:00pm till 2:30pm. I wanted to go to Sonstraaldam this morning with Willow, but decided to rather go during load shedding. I have set my alarm for 1:00pm to pull the car on the driveway.
According to the weather forecast we are having a lovely cloudy day. With a maximum temperature of 24 °C. The wind is also going to pick up later in the day.

Good Morning: 12 October 2021
Good morning friends,
Hope you all had a peaceful nights rest and are ready for this fantastic Tuesday.
Yesterday was a very busy day and this morning I feel it in my arms and calves. But it is a good feeling. I am definitely not use to hanging big heavy blankets on my own. I finished my last load of laundry yesterday at 1:30pm. It was such a hot day and everything got dry. Dad had a lot of washing after Miriam worked there over the weekend. Now we only need to wash his curtains. But that we will do when it is warmer.
I did not do much editing yesterday was too busy with laundry and running between my house, dad’s flat and the washing line. Yesterday, I walked around 10 km according to the app on my phone. This excluded the times I forgot my cellphone on my desk. That happens very often. I want to buy myself a watch with step counter and GPS , but need to save up for it first . I used my savings to buy my lens and filters.
We have loadshedding now. Willow and I are taking it easy. The electricity should come on around 8:30am. We did not go on our recce this morning. My garage doors back up batteries need to be replaced and only works with electricity at the moment. I had completely forgotten about loadshedding this morning. We have loadshedding again tonight at 10:00pm till 12:30am
According to the weather forecast we are having a lovely day. With a maximum temperature of 23 °C. The wind is also going to pick up later in the day.

Good morning friends,
How are you on this beautiful sunny Tuesday morning?
I have a very busy two days ahead. Today dad and I are going grocery shopping.
Tomorrow dad and I am going out for the day. My aunt passed away on Saturday evening and he is very sad. I looked at the weather forecast and tomorrow will be the perfect day for us to go to Velddrif and Westcoast national Park. We leave at 5:00am tomorrow morning. Tonight I will be making our breakfast to take with tomorrow morning.
I will have to put in an extra few hours of pageant editing today and Thursday to make up for tomorrow’s outing.
It is a beautiful morning outside and according to the weather forecast we are having a sunny Spring day. A maximum temperature of 19°C is predicted.

Good morning everyone,
Hope everyone is still doing well and in good health.
I can’t believe it has been 20 years since the world watched as two plains crashed into twin towers. This event shook the world.
I remember it as clear as daylight. We visited on a farm in Touws River when it happened. I was busy changing Lian’s nappy, he was only 1 month old and Armand was sitting in front of the tv playing with his toys. I heard the auntie yell, OH NO, and I thought Armand broke something. I ran to see what happened and saw the smoke coming out of the buildings on tv. Armand just kept on playing with his toys.
My heart goes out to all the people who lost a loved one that day. Also to all the rescue workers who had to do rescues and recoveries. It could not have been easy on them.
It is cool this morning and I am posting from bed. Willow is sleeping beside me. She looks so innocent…
According to the weather forecast we are having a lovely cloudy Spring day with a maximum temperature of 19°C.
I don’t have anything planned for today. I feel a bit tired and light-headed and yesterday my nose started running again. Will have to tie it down…. 🤧
I am busy whatching videos by Thomas Heaton and is learning a lot. To be a landscape photographer is not that easy and it takes planning and lots of patience and commitment. Early mornings and late nights… I look forward to getting out there and capture some beautiful landscapes. I will have to get use to always use my tripod, shutter release cable, focus manually and use filters and polarizer s when necessary.

Well friends I passed yet another test with flying colors 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ The one time that I am really hoping to fail….
I have tested positive for Covid 19. I am just grateful that I started on the medication as soon as I started feeling bad. I was so hoping that it is just flu or bronchitis but now its not.
So for the next few days I am still taking it easy and getting as much rest as possible.
I am very glad that I scheduled some posts for the next few days.
Yesterday, Lian (my youngest son) went to the shop and came back with this beautiful Arum Lily. He told me it is so beautiful so he decided to buy it for me. I am so blessed to have such a caring son.
Well, I guess I have to go to sleep now. I forgot to let you know this morning about the covid outcome…

It is the third day of September and I have flu. Well I hope it is. If I am not better by tomorrow I will make an appointment to be tested for Covid. But I am positive it is just flu. I normmally get it around this time of the year. 🤧
I will be spending yet another day in bed drinking my meds, sleeping a lot and keeping myself hydrated.
I have two nurses looking after me today. Ogies and Willow keeping me warm and making sure I stay in bed and don’t wonder around.

Good morning everyone,
I hope you all had a peaceful nights rest.
Yesterday morning I started feeling very lightheaded and thought maybe it is my bloodpresure or sugar. I tested both but it was normal. I went to bed last night with a slight headache and a sore throat. Woke up around 3:24 this morning feeling like a bus🚌 ran me over. What a way to start spring🌺
I wanted to do our grocery shopping🛒 today but I think I will rather stay in bed 🛌and take it easy.😴

I slept like a log until around 3:00am this morning. Someone tried to WhatsApp Call me in the middle of the night and later send me a text. I know my number is public but surely people can wait till decent hours before phoning in the middle of the night. Here is the text he send me. I did not reply.
“How are you doing I am buba danso from the smiling coast of west Africa, The Gambia 🇬🇲. It’s A Huge Pleasure Coming across you here. I’d love to stay in touch with you here…..I’m born to love ❤ I am just into humanity to build a good friendship, learn from each other and get to know more about each other. I am just a young boy whom is learning from others in different aspect of life I just want us to be good friends and get to know each other, I mean no harm.”
I am not sure what to do about this. Is he really harmless? How can he come across me on WhatsApp? Do I block him or do I talk to him. Maybe he is a fellow photographer or someone wanting to learn more of photography. I don’t like to be rude to people and have no problem talking to strangers and giving them advice on photography. I would like your input.
Today I feel like editing. I took 5199 photos on our Flower road trip. I have so many edit work and I just keep taking more photos…. That is the problem when you love your job and just can’t get enough of it…..

Hurricane Willow Struck again…
Morning Greetings: 21 August 2021
Good morning friends,
WOW, what a night I had. I will have to go back to Darling and look for that purple field I drove by yesterday. I could not pull over to take a photo because of the truck before me and a whole lot of vehicles behind me.
This morning I woke up with a sore shoulder and back. I must have played twister in my sleep.
Today we must do the Laundry and I must clean up the garden. Willow decided yesterday morning she needs to punish me for leaving her alone.
My son send me these yesterday morning.
Will post photos later of the rest of her distruction.
