Hein Smit, one of our talented designers was part of the Save the Tie, Save a Child Fashion Show. His dresses made heads turn and one of the dresses was sold after the second show…. Months of work went into the design and making of these dresses. Many late nights and hundred’s of ties went into these master pieces.
Hein also designed the dress for our Hostess Mrs Cape Town 2013, Chantal Witthuhn.
Hein and I started talking via Facebook after I took photo’s of Mrs Cape Town 2013 in one of the dresses he designed for her out of old and unused ties. I personally met him for the first time at one of the Save the Tie, Save a Child meetings. Hein is a very talented and passionate designer and I love his work.
Hein is launching his own clothing line Blue Chameleon and I have the pleasure to capture it for him. If you would like to order any items of this clothing line please contact Hein via Email: hein@heinsmitdesign.co.za or phone him on his Cell: 073 816 4884 for an appointment. The best of all is you can pick and choose what colors you want it in and also mix and match allot of the items.

Mrs Cape Town 2013 Chantal Witthuhn hosted the Save the Tie, Save a Child Fashion show on 27/28 June 2014. She had the idea of making outfits out of old and unused ties. When she asked me if I would be part of the team I just could not say no. What an experience it was and I have grown allot in the process. I helped collect ties, took photo’s at the meetings and had the honor to meet so many new people. The best of all was to see old ties transformed into gorgeous outfits and evening gowns….
The Junior Models and their Mothers had approximately one week to design a dress out of the old and unused ties collected. They did not disappoint at all and I must say I was super impressed once again.
Over the next few posts I will share some of the photo’s of the three designers who were also part of the project.
WOW what a rush opening night was. The models started getting ready from about 3 O’Clock the afternoon. Then while some was busy with hair and make up the rest walked the ramp to get the feel of it. The day was filled with laughter, talking and of course taking snapshots… I went back stage a few times to capture the buzz but space was a problem so I just took a few and then moved back to the stage area where I captured the models practicing.
The little one’s was so confident I think some of them have more confidence in their pinkie that I have some days… Oh my and when they are on that ramp they have attitude and some of them walk just like the models on Fashion TV.
Here are just a few collages of the photo’s I took.
After the show some of the models mingled in their tie dresses with the guests while enjoying a finger dinner. The designers posed with the guests and models and we all just had a great time…

A few weeks back we had our Photo shoot at the All Star Theatre for this awesome project by Mrs Cape Town 2013 Chantal Witthuhn.
Chantal Witthuhn in action. She is a fashion stylist and I love working with her. She has a thing for hairspray… I better start stocking up on some… Think it’s rubbing off on me too…

Estrolita Petersen are one of my photography clients. I first met her when Mrs Cape Town Chantal Witthuhn introduced us and I did a portfolio shoot with her.
She phoned me 4 days prior to the opening of ZEEZ and asked if I could come and capture this special event. I did not even think twice.
What a lovely evening we had. The food was great and we all got some tips on how to do our make up in only a few steps… I do not really like make up but in the fashion and beauty industry unfortunately I must also look the part. Even though my face are behind the camera 95% of the time.
Estrolita I wish you all the best for your new adventure with ZEEZ.
A few weeks back we had our second meeting for this awesome project by Mrs Cape Town 2013 Chantal Whitthuhn.
We are collecting ties old, new, unused, unwanted any shape and size for three designers who will then design 12 outfits each made out of these ties. I am looking forward to seeing what they came up with. These 36 outfits will then be auctioned off to raise funds for the Children of Cape Town.
Time is really flying now before we know it the big night is upon us. So far I am feeling blessed to have this opportunity to work with this wonderful team. Knowing we are playing a role in a brighter future for some of the kids of Cape Town….
The Event is going to be held at the All Star Theatre and will stretch over two days. 27 and 28 June 2014.

Here are some of the behind the scenes photo’s I took.
On Thursday 4 April 2013 I had the privilege to capture this lovely Red head. When I asked her if she knows how to pose she said and I quote… “I have no idea how to pose.”
She was very nervous but as soon as the camera was aimed in her direction she seemed at home. Just as if she belongs there. Oh and it turned out she do know how to pose just needed some minor adjustments here and there.
Okay today I finished Arno’s Photo Shoot. This photo had me in stitches….
I asked Arno he must not laugh or smile he must be very very serious. Well look at that serious face….
For the next few weeks I will post photo’s of the SAPS Cycle Tour, photo’s taken on holiday, some of the functions and charities I visited with Sunette Nieuwoudt and of course some freshly taken photo’s….
Did not get much done today. Was just to tired and in the end I was not satisfied with the outcome of yesterday’s photo’s I edited. So I deleted them and started over…
Clearly I need to get out there and take some photo’s I think I have withdrawal symptoms…
This photo was my last photo for today and I just love the way he looked into the lens…
If you can remember a few weeks ago I posted some photo’s of beautiful ladies in cocktail dresses. Well with the cocktail dresses I still had a working flash.
When it got to the evening dresses my external flash batteries was dead and I tried to take some photo’s with my camera’s built in flash but for the distance I had to zoom it was far to weak.
I had to expand my photography boundaries and tried something new. I took photo’s in manual mode without a tripod and only the knowledge of an article or two I read on this type of photography a while back…
I must be very honest with you and I think I have right to brag… My photo’s came out stunning!!!
Now if I can only get the opportunity to practice some more…. I think I can show some of the photographers with their degrees in photography a thing or two. I am proud to say that I am a self taught photographer. My friend showed me the basics and the rest of my knowledge I got from reading articles in photography magazines and on the internet.
If I am uncertain about what to do for a upcoming photo shoot, I go to my computer. Google is a wonderful tool to have I just type in the topic I want to research and within seconds it gives you lists and lists of articles on the topic. I then grab my “boyfriend” and start practicing. I use the information I gathered as a guideline and then I start playing with my camera’s settings. I believe in practice, practice, practice and practice oh and then once more practice. I don’t think that any photographer out there can stop practicing. Well maybe I am the only one that thinks like that.
Okay you waited long enough here are the photo’s I took of the lovely ladies in their evening dresses.
One of my clients took part in a beauty pageant I was lucky enough to be there as a guest and took some photo’s just for the fun of it. This morning Sunette asked me if I had photo’s of her in her evening dress. This is one of the photo’s I took that evening of her dress. As you know from previous posts I was not prepared that evening and when I got to the evening dresses I had to rely on my camera and the settings I used. My batteries for my flash was flat…. I took the photo’s in Manual mode and I must be honest I am very happy with the results of the photo’s. The photo’s are not perfect but with practice I will only get better and better….
As a sponsor of Sunette Nieuwoudt I was invited to the Gala evening of the Winelands Winter Queen 2012 Pageant.
I took my camera with for the sole purpose to take photo’s of Sunette and the winner of the pageant. I did not even take with extra batteries for my flash or camera. All of the photo’s taken of the contestants on the evening was taken from our table. I had to delete allot of photo’s due to closed eyes, people jumping up or the official photographer blocking my view from were I sat. So if some of the contestants are looking at these photo’s please don’t be cross with me if you were not captured. I don’t like to publish photo’s of people who’s eyes are closed and due the lighting that happened very often.
I love challenging myself and my ability to adapt to different circumstances. For the first part of the evening I still had my external flash to rely on then the batteries died….

My photo of the day for 28 July 2012 was taken at the Winelands Winter Queen Gala evening.
I was invited to this Gala evening by Sunette Nieuwoudt our own Mrs SA finalist. I took my camera with to take some photo’s of Sunette and the winners my intention was not to take photo’s of the whole event. But by now you know me I just could not resist. I was not prepared had one memory card and did not charge any batteries. Half way through the event my flash batteries died and I was forced to practice my photography without a flash and a tripod…..
I am very happy with the results of my photo’s. First of all I took all the photo’s from our table I did not want to inconvenience the official photographer. Second I had to zoom in at least 100mm in low light and no support from a tripod….
But you can judge the photo of the day…. The rest will follow in a few weeks time first need to finish some other shoots photo’s first.
Just love this dress…. One of the finalist of the Winelands Winter Queen Pageant
