The Four Agreements: Part 2

Over the next few weeks I am going to read The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and just give you a summary of what I read and how I understand it. I am just a normal person and I find it interesting how different people see the world. This is not based on any typical religion. I hope you find it as interesting as I did. Please keep an open mind.

Today’s Chapter is a story about a man who made a discovery in his dreams. Again PLEASE KEEP AN OPEN MIND.

Chapter 2: The Smokey Mirror

Three thousand years ago, there was a man who studied to become a medicine man. He wanted to learn the knowledge of his ancestors. He did not agree with everything and felt there must more.

On the night of the new moon, he went to the mountains and slept in a cave. He had a dream, and he saw himself sleeping and later went outside. He saw millions of stars in the clear sky. Something happened that transformed his life. He looked at his hands and felt his body. He heard himself say, “I am made of light; I am made of stars.”

He looked at the stars and realized that the light creates the stars. “Everything is made of light,” he said, “and space in-between isn’t empty.” Everything that exists is one living being with light as the messenger.

He realized that although he was made of stars he was not those stars. “I am in-between the stars,” he thought. He called the stars the tonal and the light between the stars the nagual. He knew that what created the harmony and space between the two is life. Without it, the tonal and the nagual could not exist.

Everything in existence is a manifestation of the one living being we call God. He concluded that human perception is merely light perceiving light.

He also saw that the matter is a mirror. Everything is a mirror that reflects light and creates images of that light. The world of illusion, the Dream, is just like smoke, which doesn’t allow us to see what we are. “The real us is pure love, pure light,” he said.

This realization changed his life. He saw himself in everything, other people and nature. He was so excited, and his heart filled with peace. He wanted to tell everyone what he discovered. He could not find the right words to explain it to them, and no one understood him.

They did see a change in him. He no longer judged anything or anyone. He had something beautiful radiating from his eyes. They believed that he was an incarnation of God.

He tried to explain to them that they are all images of light. But they did not understand him.

“Everyone is a mirror,” he said. He saw himself in everyone, but nobody saw him as themselves. He then came to the conclusion that everyone was dreaming, without knowing they are. They could not see him as themselves because there was a wall of smoke between the mirrors. It was made by the interpretation of images of light – the Dreams of humans.

He knew that he would soon forget all he learned and wanted to remember. He then started calling himself Smokey Mirror. This way, he would know that the mirror is the dreamer and the smoke in-between is the Dream.

I am not really sure if I completely understand the story. When I read the book the first time I read this chapter more than 5 times. We all have illusions of the perfect life. But my illusion and another persons illusion is not the same. We as humans are all the same and deep down we all want to be happy and at peace. I have read that we are all connected to each other and maybe this is another way to put it.

What is your take on the story? Please send me an email or leave a comment. I would love to hear your take on it.

Next Week: Chapter 3: Domestication and the Dream of the Planet (This chapter is a bit longer and I will divide it into four parts.)

With all my heart, thank you for your continued support.

Have a Blessed day.
